How we earn
We would rather tell you upfront than have you wonder. Day in Port is free to use, and it stays useful because of how we make money, not despite it.
Where the money comes from
When you book a shore excursion, a transfer, a ticket, an eSIM or travel insurance through a link on Day in Port, we may earn a commission from the operator, at no extra cost to you. We are also building a premium plan for travellers who want offline access, saved alerts and deeper itineraries, and we work with travel agents, hotels and cruise lines who license our data and tools.
None of this is buried in fine print. Wherever a link can earn us a commission, it is marked as one.
What commissions never touch
Scores, rankings and recommendations are computed from data — distances, timings, reliability, confidence — and nothing else. A tour operator’s commission rate has no input into whether we suggest their excursion, an independent alternative, or nothing at all.
If the honest answer for your port day is "skip the excursions and walk into town on your own," that is what we will tell you, even though it earns us nothing.
How we hold ourselves to it
We keep the recommendation engine separate from the monetisation layer on purpose: one decides what is genuinely useful for your time ashore, the other decides which of the useful options happens to pay us. If we ever get that wrong, tell us at hello@day-in-port.com — a tool that quietly favours its own income stops being a safety tool.
