What is worth booking

Sóller is the trip in Palma where a guided package earns its cost, mainly by managing the connections for you: a bundled ticket covering the vintage train, the old tram down to the port and a boat back to Palma removes the timetable-watching that an independent visitor has to do alone, and turns three separate schedules into one. Given how far behind schedule a missed connection here can put you, that coordination is worth paying for on a day with a fixed all-aboard.

There is little reason to book anything for La Seu cathedral, the old town or Bellver Castle — all three are close to the port, unbooked and simple to reach by bus or taxi, and a guided walk adds commentary more than access. Be wary of full-day tours that pair Sóller with the cathedral or the castle: the mountain train alone claims most of a comfortable day, and stacking a city visit on top usually means rushing one or the other.

Port day questions

Is a Sóller tour worth booking instead of doing the train myself?

Mostly for the coordination — a packaged ticket covering the train, tram and return boat removes the timetable-juggling, which matters more here than in most day trips because the connections aren’t frequent.

Should I book a guided tour for the cathedral or old town?

Not really needed. Both sit a short bus or taxi ride from the port with no booking required, and they reward wandering more than a fixed-pace tour.
