Palma de Mallorca to Sóller from the cruise port
Sóller is the reason most ships call at Palma de Mallorca. The question is never “is it worth it” — it is “can I get back in time”. Here is the honest math.
Ships dock at Palma’s Estació Marítima on the Dique del Oeste, about 4 km southwest of the old town — never at anchor. EMT bus Line 1 stops right outside the terminal and reaches Plaça d’Espanya, at the edge of the old town, in around ten minutes for €2.50; it also passes several other terminal buildings for ships docked elsewhere along the quay. Taxis queue outside too, for a similar ten-minute run into town. There is no immigration or passport check to budget for — Spain is fully Schengen, so passengers disembark straight onto the quay.

Independent vs guided
Palma is one of the easiest ports to do entirely independently. The bus is cheap and frequent, signage runs in Spanish, Catalan and usually English, and the old town is flat and walkable once off the bus. A guided tour earns its keep mainly for Sóller — the vintage train, tram and boat combination is more relaxing when someone else manages the connections — or for Bellver Castle’s hilltop views without the uphill walk from the nearest bus stop.
