Livorno itself is a working port city, and almost nobody who docks here stays. The name on every excursion board is Florence, with Pisa’s leaning tower as the easy add-on since it sits almost on the way. The catch is arithmetic, not scenery: reaching Livorno Centrale station from the terminal, then riding the train to either city, then getting back, adds up to real hours before you have looked at a single painting.
Livorno is a dock port with more than one cruise terminal depending on your ship and the day, which changes your walking distance more than most ports admit. None of them sit next to Livorno Centrale station — expect a shuttle, taxi or bus ride of fifteen to twenty-five minutes just to reach the platform, sometimes via the city centre first. Once at the station, trains to Pisa Centrale take about 15–20 minutes; trains to Firenze Santa Maria Novella take roughly 80 minutes, with a change at Pisa on some services. Independent works cleanly for Pisa — it is a short, simple hop and the tower is easy to find on foot from the station. Florence rewards a bit more planning: book Uffizi tickets ahead if you want to go inside, since walk-up queues alone can eat an hour. A guided coach excursion is worth paying for if you want both cities in one day, since operators run a fixed circuit and absorb the port-to-station leg that independent travellers have to solve themselves — and they will get you back to the ship on time, which matters most on a two-city day.

Can I visit both Florence and Pisa from Livorno in one day?
