Florence from Livorno is a full transit chain: fifteen to twenty-five minutes by shuttle or taxi to Livorno Centrale, then a regional train of around eighty minutes to Firenze Santa Maria Novella — sometimes direct, sometimes with a change at Pisa — landing you close to eighty to a hundred minutes after leaving the ship. Once there, the Duomo, the Uffizi and the Ponte Vecchio are all within walking distance of the station, which is one mercy on an otherwise long day.
The safe last train back to Livorno should leave Florence with at least three and a half hours before all-aboard, covering the ride, a possible Pisa change, and the shuttle queue at the Livorno end. What you realistically see: the Duomo’s exterior, a pre-booked Uffizi visit if you arranged one, and a walk over the Ponte Vecchio — not much more once lunch and the transit chain are accounted for. On a standard afternoon all-aboard, the round trip to Florence is sane on its own, but it is not a day that also has room for Pisa; trying to add it is where the schedule turns against you.
