The realistic sequence is: reach the Old Port (a walk if you tendered there, a taxi or the sea bus if you docked at the New Port), board your booked Delos ferry, cross in about 30 minutes, then explore the sanctuary for around two hours before the return sailing. Ferries run to their own timetable rather than the ship’s, so treat that crossing as the least flexible part of your day, not something you can push back if you’re running late.
Work backwards from your all-aboard: the last safe Delos departure is whichever return sailing gets you back to the Old Port, and then to your ship’s actual berth, comfortably before the gangway closes. Skip the trip if your call is short or your ship uses the New Port and adds a shuttle on each end — the round trip can eat half the day, and there’s no faster way off the island once you’re there. If your window allows it, though, this is the one attraction here you can’t approximate by wandering Chora; everything else on this island is repeatable, this is not.
