La Spezia → Riomaggiore
Riomaggiore is the safest of the four connections precisely because it is the shortest: allow ten to thirty minutes to reach La Spezia Centrale from the ship depending on your berth, then a ten-minute regional ride puts you in the village. The platform can still be crowded in August, so budget a wait for a train with room rather than assuming the first one that pulls in will take you.
Because the ride itself is so short, the safe last train back can be as little as two hours before all-aboard and still leave real margin, covering a possible full first train, the ride, and the port-to-station leg on the way back. What you see is a compact, colourful harbour village in an hour or two — not much to occupy a full day on its own, which is why it usually gets combined with one more stop.
