La Spezia → Vernazza
Vernazza sits about twenty minutes up the line from La Spezia, so the sequence is: ten to thirty minutes to the station depending on your berth, then the train, arriving at what many consider the prettiest of the five harbours. The trade-off for that reputation is crowding — Vernazza’s tiny platform and harbour square fill up fast in season, and boarding the return train can mean waiting for a second or third service to find room.
A safe departure from Vernazza is at least two and a half hours before all-aboard, which absorbs a full train or two on a busy afternoon along with the port-to-station leg at the La Spezia end. In that time you can walk the harbour, climb to the castle tower for the view, and eat without rushing, but adding a second village on top of Vernazza starts eating into the buffer that protects your return.
